Having a good point guard is a must when it comes to winning a championship. With coaches sometimes getting lost in translation during the course of a game, a good team needs someone to direct the show on the floor during the most difficult of times. Here at the office, we have been in heavy debate over over the past two days who the best point guard is to build a franchise around – right now. Many argue that lead guards like Chris Paul, Derrick Rose and Rajon Rondo are the best in the field for the position. However, Deron Williams is the ultimate franchise point guard.

When comparing Williams with Rose and Rondo, it seems he is not the level of athlete that the latter two guards are. However, he is more athletic than people give him credit for. He has dunked on Rose in the past, and when it comes to pushing the ball on the break, it is a tossup between the three as to who crosses the finish line first with the ball.

But the main factor that makes Williams a better pick than Rose and Rondo is his jump shot. The lack of a consistent jumper has hurt Rondo in the Finals as the Lakers just backed off and dared him to shoot. With Williams on the perimeter, you have to respect his jumper while still having to watch for his quick first step.

Often, one of the most forgotten attributes of a good point guard is intelligence. D-Will has spent his entire career studying under one of the greatest minds in the game in Jerry Sloan. And Sloan has had a close hand in William’s’ development. The fact that Williams has gained Sloan’s trust, proves that D-Will is battle-tested.

Picking Deron over CP3 is a tough call. When healthy, Chris Paul puts up eye-popping numbers and is an amazing individual stat machine. But what separates the two for me is wins. D-Will is a winner. He’s come out on top in so many more meaningful games in college and the pros that he is rarely rattled. The fact that he keeps his cool as the pressure rises give me the confidence to trust that he will lead my team to the promised land. For me, the ultimate franchise point guard is Deron Williams.

What do you think?

Nyjer's had issues all year. Lacks focus, presses too hard, terrible plays in the field, etc. Caught stealing way too many times for a guy with that kind of speed. He's just a mental case.

As for the brawl game, I don't really have a problem with them throwing at Nyjer the first time. I don't have a problem with him stealing bases. Florida was the team up 9, not Washington. Nyjer's value is his speed. If you don't want him running, throw him out.

Frankly, I think anyone would've charged Volstad after he threw behind Morgan.

But that clothes line on Morgan was freaking awesome.

It's nice seeing passion from two teams that aren't even in the playoff hunt.

There was also the issue of him going after the catcher unnecessarily earlier in the game (or series?). And last Saturday he took out the Cards' catcher when he didn't need to. A lot of people have their eye on him.

And the Marlins aren't completely out of it either. The way they can run over the Braves could conceivably pull them back in the mix.

I had to log out after round 4 or 5, but the auto pick seemed to do an okay job for me.
I am still upset that DnF beat me to this years dark horse (Arian Foster) by just a couple picks, just as I stole Ray Rice last year with a late round pick.

I believe the answer to question 1 is that the privilege is not effective when such communcations are the center of the dispute (e.g., if I am suing my lawyer for malpractice, then our communications are at the center of the dispute). Furthermore, the client holds the privilege and can voluntarily waive it (probably Mrs. McCourt in this instance).

I like the technology and the idea of showcasing athletes as beautiful but I'd rather they did it in a more naturalistic setting and also showed women who are more athletic than beautiful. All of these women have been showcased as models in other situations, their beauty has been recognized before. This just packages the eye candy in a different format.

Yes, Womack had a long history of hurting the Cards. So much so that they went out and acquired him after his stint in Arizona, and he proceeded to suck so badly that he made Geronimo Pena look like an all-star. Aside from a couple decent years from Fernando Vina, the Cards have had a black hole at 2B since the days of Tommy Herr.

I'm so accustomed to the ineptitude of the Orioles that I am no longer upset about anything bad that happens. As I've said many times on this and other forums, if the Os are within 5 games of first place at the end of April, the season will be considered a success.

I know exactly the type of guy who calls that in. I once hit a ball off the 10th hole at Hobble creek (short, downhill par-3)...I hit it a little thin, so it rolled off the backside of the green. When I got down there, I couldn't find the ball (it either went OB or was hidden in the underbrush). This old guy driving his own cart was paired up with me and he insisted that I walk back to the tee and take a third shot from the tee. I was walking, so I said, "I'll do it if you give me a lift up there." He refused, so I allowed him to play the 11th solo and joined up with the group behind us.

That's the type of guy who called in.

You dont typically make a trade in the NFL, for a QB no less in the middle of camp, only to cut him a month later. Of all positions, QB has the steepest learning curve. Get the guy in camp and unless he really screws up, you keep him around. IMO, I think you evaluate Beck to see if he is far enough along that you can get by with two QBs instead of three. As it stands, I think they take three QBs into the season.

He is going to start on the strong side. Cameron Wake the CFLs leader in sacks in 2007 and 2008 will start on the weak side. With Dansby and Crowder in the middle.

Miamis linebackers are looking very good. Misi has proven to be a very capable pass rusher off the edge which was obviously a strength of his in college. Where Miami has been really impressed is with his coverage skills. He has good speed and great hip turn for a guy that size. He is going to be a nice player and will have every opportunity in the world to put up big numbers. He is essentially taking Jason Taylors spot from last year.
