ok, some more updates. There does seem to be some disconnect here.

First, Lamar did attend the preview last night, but he did not speak to local TV media. Farmar, Walton, and Fisher gave interviews. Not sure if this was done at the behest of his agent or if John Black asked Lamar to refrain from speaking since, technically, he is not a Laker right now.

First, LA Times report:

http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-...,6204069.story

Quote:
He sounded frustrated he hasn't been able to come to terms with the Lakers on a contract. But he sounded hopeful he and the Lakers will get a deal done.

At the end of the day, Odom was asked, does he expect to be back playing for the Lakers next season?

"I don't know," Odom told The Times in a phone interview. "That's why there are negotiations. I don't know. Of course I hope they can get it done.
However, it seems that by all reports, Buss has upped his offer....I have read anywhere from 8.5 to 9M....which would now seem to indicate that Lamar has some other sort of issue. Why would he be generating this negative vibe over 1M?

Quote:
The Times has reported that Odom and his agent, Jeff Schwartz, are seeking $10 million a season. The Lakers have offered Odom a deal north of $9 million a season for the first three years.
From Forum Blue and Gold:

Quote:
First, regarding the news on Odom that Mitch Kupchak said the Lakers are more pessimistic about a deal. If I were the Lakers and I went to Odom and upped my offer to $8.5 mil (the number I heard here at Summer League) and he took his sweet time making a decision, I would be a little disappointed. And I might well try a little negotiating through the media to get my point across. Simply put, Odom is not getting a better offer anywhere at this point, so if he wants to wait out the Portland/Utah thing, go ahead. I think the Lakers are done negotiating.
Lakers Nation is reporting that Miami has entered the pic. They are offering Lamar the MLE for 5 years. When asked about the Miami offer, Lamar declined to comment.

http://www.lakersnation.com/latest-q...om/2009/07/13/

Losing Lamar would be a serious blow to the Lakers chances for a repeat. In fact, I would say that it would be unlikely that they repeat without Lamar to plug holes all season long. It would not be impossible (Bryant, Gasol, Artest, Bynum) but all of a sudden that bench doesn't look so magically delicious.

Barrea? They're thinking we do a S&T and we get Barrea? We don't want a diminutive PG. At least I don't.

I thought that he looked promising at the end of the year. Also, Jax did well with BJ Armstrong.

Go back to the very first page of this epic thread. Looks like Surfah and I were using our seer stones to predict the future.

Scottie gets credit for his spot-on analysis in the first post.

I am a scryer.

Looks like the Lakers offered 3 years $27 million dollars. LO wants more years. So the Lakers pulled the offer.

How the Artest negotiation went down:

My favorite line:

Agent: I just got off the phone with Mitch Kupchak
RonRon: What'd he want?
Agent: What do you think he wants? He want's to get you a championship next year.

Feel grateful that it won't ever happen. You need LO, not an inexperienced thug from PG County, that has never seen a shot he didn't like.

Well it's just a rumor until the Lakers hire a new assistant coach.

In other LA professional basketball news, the Clippers are reportedly meeting with Allen Iverson to look him in the face and be reassured that he is ready to be the leader and role-model that Blake Griffin needs. Brilliant move by the Clips.

I read that before the Clippers came along, Iverson was having trouble finding anything more than a couple mil a season. Man, has his star faded fast. Guys like Starbury, Iverson, Francis.....little cancers around the league that can't find work anymore because of their poor attitudes.

Ammo is tearing up the summer league. As he should, but I hope this gets his confidence back up. Averaging 20/5/2 with 42% from 3pt land. The guy could be useful.

He did. Offer is off the table now. Lakers say that Odom's agent isn't returning calls today, which pissed the Lakers off.

Can someone please explain what Lamar's plan may be? I am not seeing it. If he is holding out over money, where else will he go to get 9M per?

Without Odom, the Lakers do not repeat.

Ugh.....one rumor floating around is a trade......to the Jazz.....for Boozer. Yuck.

I laughed that off until I saw that Boozer basically expects to be traded in the next few weeks.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/9...xpecting-trade

A S&T would work, no? Doesn't Boozer make around 12M? They could front end a deal for Lamar by giving him 11M or so in the first year, 10 or so the rest.

Boozer for Lamar, straight up.

I am sick to my stomach.

Boozer would actually be a nice player in the Lakers system. My biggest complaint is that he seems to be unable or unwilling to put forth effort on the defensive side of the court. He's a good offensive player and a stud rebounder when healthy. With several solid to good defensive players on the Lakers, Artest, Bynum, Kobe, and even Gasol, Boozer's glaring weakness could be masked pretty well.

Yes, and frankly, he would be in a position to shine, being the 3rd or 4th option on the team. But I cant get down with his laziness. There were several instances in the series vs the Lakers where he simply didn't even try to bang for position, grab a rebound, and in one instance, he let Trevor pick him clean and didn't even attempt to chase him down on the other end, resulting in an easy dunk for Ariza.

The Cavs, Spurs, Mavs, and Celtics all got stronger. The Blazers will be better. The Lakers need toughness and players committed to getting physical if they are going to repeat. I just don't see Boozer having a month like Lamar, where Lamar pulls down 16, 17, 18, 19 rebounds...comes off the bench, starts, scores 19, and does about 5 other things for the team in order to win.

I am not trying to slag on the Jazz here. I am talking specifically about Boozer. He has made a messy bed for himself. His rep, fairly or otherwise, is that he is lazy defensively. The last thing the Lakers need is another soft big/quasi big.

If Boozer could commit to working hard, it would be a good fit for one year, esp since the salaries would be so close anyway.

LA Times reports that the offer is officially off the table. This is high stakes poker right here.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/9...veteran-F-Odom

wtf are these agents doing? I am wondering why I didn't become a sports agent. Seems like you don't have to be competent at anything to be an agent....which would suit my abilities perfectly.

Quote:
Lakers owner Jerry Buss, in particular, has been upset by the fact that Odom and his agent, Jeff Schwartz, haven't reached out to the organization, which offered the Lakers' sixth man $9 million per season for three years, the Times.

Schwartz, instead, is interested in a deal that would give the veteran forward a total of $50 million over five years.

The newspaper also reported that Buss is displeased that Odom and Schwartz have had discussions with the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat — but not the Lakers.

Gary Miller reporting the official numbers.

Today Lakers offered Lamar 3 yrs for $30M OR 4 yrs for $36M. Lamar's agent didn't even respond.

Meanwhile, the agent does talk to Dallas and Miami...about a mid level exception per annum over 5 years. dumb.

Yeah, and when I told another attorney the other day that if his didn't give in, we're just going to trial, I meant it, too.

If Odom would be stupid enough to get too far out of line, Sloan would kick his ass.

Interesting. Not sure how I feel about it yet.
This is the exact trade that is being talked about for Boozer. Mark Blount and Beasley for Boozer.

In other news the Spurs look to be closing in on a deal with Big Baby Davis. Mcdyess, Duncan, Big Baby, is a nice front line.

Utah has been good since 2004. Boise State has had one of the country's best records since 2000. TCU just played in it first BCS bowl.

BYU has been a national power for decades. It is a true football factory. Used to be Quarterback U. Lavell Edwards, Steve Young, Robbie Bosco, all that. It did win that national championship in '84.
