I actually think Jordo will be the head case on the team this season, not Artest.

Meanwhile, Pow's injury seems to be all better, as he scores 27 and 11 in a win over the UK in the Eurobasket tournament.

So maybe it has been posted in here. Sorry if it has, I don't read every post in this thread. I saw Jordan Farmer tonight on the World Series of Poker. I didn't watch much of it. The only reason it even caught my eye was because when i turned my t.v. on ESPN was the last channel I was watching last night. I laughed though because he was talking a little smack to the guys at the table.

The Summer of Kobe continues......

Actually, as the Summer of Kobe winds down, another proud member of the Lakers Nation has put together yet another tribute to last-season's championship run. This one has a Friday Night Light's vibe to it. Very cool.

ps catch the reference to their fallen teammate and the timing of the video....

Big article in ESPN the Mag this week on Trevor Ariza. He and his agent say that the Lakers never made them an offer. Well, David Lee says the MLE wasn't an offer. So Mitch told him what he thought Ariza deserved. So Mitch told him to go see what the market will bear. Trevor says he would have stayed in LA for the MLE and that all he ever wanted is to feel wanted. There is a serious disconnect between his statements and his agents statements in the article and what happened. Oh well. He's stoked to be in Houston. He says he gets to be the guy which is what he wanted. And the Rockets are saying he was their number 1 based on their moneyball, sabermetrics BS they do. You know, how they determined that Shane Battier is the best player in the world....

All Trevor ever wanted was to feel wanted? Like Mitch trading for him after the Knicks and Magic had given up? Like Jax giving him the starting job and the closer role in the playoffs? Like the massive ovation he received at the Coliseum when 200K or more showed up along the route to cheer his name and beg him to return?

All trevor wanted was to feel wanted, with "wanted" being defined as 8M or more per yer in a down economy. If he was fine all along with the MLE, there would have been no need for posturing on behalf of his agent. The MLE is always there.

Also, if he is stoked to be in Houston, then move on and stop talking about it. This whole deal is David Lee's fault. We will see how stoked Trevor is when "his" team is struggling to get 30 wins and the Lakers are priming for another deep playoffs run.

You hit upon every thought I had while reading the article. The entire theme of the article was based on him never having a home, following his step-dad all over the world while he was playing pro ball, never buying and always renting since he was drafted because he never knew where he was going to be playing next. In fact, he said he never bought in LA because he was in a contract year.

I guess he's been working out at SDSU all off season on his ball handling because they're expecting him to be more comfortable bringing the ball up, initiating the offense, and creating his own like T-Mac. That's going to be interesting.

Trevor could have had it all here in LA. Look at how much slack the fans cut Jordan Farmar when he makes mistakes (or says silly things).....a very large part of this is because he is local....HS, fUCLA, and now the Lakers. He is home grown. Lakers fans have always loved homeboys. Trevor is all-natural Angelino. There was no reason for this to have happened, other than he wanted to get paid and it backfired.

Instead of working out at SDSU, he could be working out at Health South with everyone else. I don't blame Trevor, I blame David Lee. But if Trevor starts to get large in the press, he will see how quickly the fans turn on him. Just ask Shaq how it goes when you blast the Lakers on your way out the door.

I wish Trevor the best in Houston and hope he finds a lot of success. I am not sure he is equipped to do what they will expect of him. And my sucker bet is that he will quickly wish he were the 4th or 5th option back in LA, esp since he is getting the exact same pay he would have received had he stayed.

I place it all on David Lee as well. And there is a brief comment by the author of the article that says that the Lakers handled things the way they did with Ariza because of Lee's handling or mishandling of Bynum the previous year. Mitch is quoted as saying he wanted Ariza back and their plan all along was to get him signed. But when their talks stalled and Artest became available they had to move.

Ariza seemed hurt that the Lakers signed Artest. Though not explicitly stated the apparent lack of communication between Ariza and Lee and Lee and the Lakers is mind boggling. I just don't get it.

But I hope he has a heck of a year. The Lakers in the article were complimentary. They all loved him. He was in charge of the movies when they'd road trip. LO thinks he'll be an all star in Houston. Fat chance.

Back at the gym.....Luke, The Machine, and Crybaby.

Luke looks like he has been hitting the weights a bit this summer.

Crybaby makes millions but works out in vans slip-ons.

Good read DDD. I thought some of the comments were telling, especially this one about LO:

Quote:
I’m just happy to learn that he’s been working hard.
Pretty interesting how they tailor the workouts not just based upon needs but what these guys like to do.

I have been reading multiple reports that Lamar has been hitting hard this summer. And I really like that Artest has been making time to head into the gym with Kobe. This tells me that they are making plans.

With all his hip problems, why isn't JaX hitting the gym every day?

Peter Mehlman interviews Fish and Kobe for the Narrow World of Sports series, asking them all sorts of ridiculous questions in the process. The videos are both dumb, but there are parts that are entertaining because the questions are so bizarre and delivered in such a droll fashion.....asking Fish to call and apologize to Louis Scola on the phone, asking Kobe if he would dunk on Osama bin Laden, or whether Fish's "WWJD" bracelet extends to whether he should shoot or drive to the basket.

Quote:
Mehlman: You want to call him now?
Fisher: You have his number?
Mehlman: I don't.
Fisher: (disappointed) Oh.
I was surprised that Kobe and Fish were able to give some fairly funny answers, mostly because they played it straight.

I liked the first question he asked Kobe:

"Do you tip the refs more after a playoff game than you do a regular season game?"

Kobe talks trash to Carmelo.

Apparently they are playing each other one-on-one today?

Abbott is way off the mark on that one. I don't hump his leg as many do, but I still think Abbott is good. Than one though is pretty funny. Can't take Laker envy out of him. I guess that's what happens when you're a Blazers fan.

BTW, that last dunk in the pre-season at T&M Arena is my favorite dunk all time by Kobe. That was Ben Wallace he dunked on. He took off from far away. Not to mention the nasty crossover to get to the rim.

Watching that made me miss the old guys. Horry. Foxy. B Shaw. Nick the Quick. And hearing Chickie's voice.

Pre-season is less than 2 weeks away. WOO-HOO!

This season should be a good one. Spurs, Celtics, Cavs, and Lakers. I can't wait. I love this time of year.

I am actually most interested to see how the new Cavs iteration turns out with Shack. Also interested in seeing how Orlando works together.

The Celtics, Lakers, Spurs....you already know that they will be really good. They only upgraded the support staff. The nuclei remained the same.

The Cavs and Magic are basically trying to add very critical components to what they had going on last season....will it work?

I am also interested in seeing what fun comical pre-game antics the Cavaliers unveil for everyone this season. I hope they are just as over-the-top as last season!

Utah has been good since 2004. Boise State has had one of the country's best records since 2000. TCU just played in it first BCS bowl.

BYU has been a national power for decades. It is a true football factory. Used to be Quarterback U. Lavell Edwards, Steve Young, Robbie Bosco, all that. It did win that national championship in '84.
